It really creeps up on you.
This year’s little projects included jars and, now that I have an exterior, tombstones. I found rubber doll legs for only $.75 and that was the start of the jars. I put out the call for chicken bones from all the meat eaters I know (I needed something sticking out of the thigh) and got such a response, I also have a jar of Gnome bones.
Courtesy of the dollar store, I also have monkey brains and alien heads – direct from Roswell New Mexico. I hope to scare children with the offer of a leg over that of candy. Oh what fun it will be. My being dressed as Mr. Tumnus from Narnia should scare off those that the flickering lights, decapitated body, creepy music, jack-o-lantern ghost, fog machine etc don’t. I can’t wait!
Tombstone production began only yesterday. And all went smoothly until the lettering – what a pain! That took about three hours but was worth it in the end. I know have one that reads “Andrew Jackson Borden. Sept 13, 1822 – Aug 4, 1892. Father of Lizzie Borden. Lies Here.” There are several smaller stones around it that read “And here” “Over here too” “Little Bit here”. Hee hee. Count Dracula has his own with several dates of death. Berry D. Hatchet was the last one off the production line.
It was a good deal of work for one day and I figure if I do one a month for the coming year, I will have a full cemetery next Halloween.
